The Pride of Geocaching Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

Aberwak: Everyone's logged their visit and all travel bugs have been accounted for. I think that just highlights the success of the event- thanks to everyone for making it great! For those who missed it, here are some of the highlights I still can remember:

-A big group (5-10 cachers) all looking for NMSU a la Cache
-A log sheet you actually had to find
-9 caches placed for the event (5 made into permanent caches)
-20-25 people showed up altogether
-Visitors were able to log Tealeaf as a geocoin [:D]

Geocache Description:

Date: June 2, 2007
Time: 9:00 (am)
Place: New Mexico State University's Pride Field [Park in the middle of the Horseshoe]

It's about time for another southern New Mexico event, hopefully to introduce some of the new geocachers to some of the "existing" geocachers in the area.

The event will be located at the New Mexico State University campus on Pride Field. It's named as such because the Pride Marching Band (also known as "The Pride of New Mexico") practices on this very field. Sadly, there won't be any marching band performing for the event- although that would make for some good entertainment.

Activities planned at the event will include several new caches hidden on the NMSU campus (both temporary and permanent). This is mostly a "simple" (if there is such a thing) meet and greet for the geocachers in the area. If there's a demand for it, other activities can be arranged- frisbee, water guns/balloons, or other games. If you have suggestions, e-mail me or post a note. Everything will start about 9 before it gets hot and will go until everyone's gotten tired.

Directions: The best way to enter the university is by Espina. Go south until you reach the South Horseshoe (it will be the second stop sign once you cross University Avenue). You'll be able to park your vehicle around the field (it's a Saturday, so you won't have to worry about parking stickers). If space is full there, make a full circle around the Horseshoe until you come back to Espina. Continue on the Horseshoe (going West). Once you come to Knox Street, make a right. There will be two very big parking lots to choose from (see waypoints if needed).

If you're coming off of I-25, take exit 1 (University Avenue) and head west until you reach Espina. Turn south (left turn) and follow the above instructions.

If you're coming in from I-10, use exit 142 (Valley Dr./University Ave). You'll need to make a right at the light (going east) until you reach Espina. Make another right (headed south), following the above instructions.
