update april 24

LOCATION CHANGE!!!!!! LOCATION CHANGE!!!!!!

the county will not let us use the joffre day use area since it is not technically open yet, so i spent yesterday scrambling to find an alternate location. luckily i heard back from one place today, and we have the ok to use the parking lot of the balmoral bible chapel for the day. a huge thank you goes out to them.
physical address: Rutherford Dr and 55 Street Red Deer, AB
coordinates will be updated on the page, but here they are for right now : N 52 16.454 W 113 45.546

Update: april 23/09

The basic plan for the clean up is to work in sections. One group will start at the city limits working east, the other group will work at the top of the hill and make their way west. Depending on how long it takes to do that section, we can break the rest of the highway into 3km or smaller sections.

At 10am, we will start cleaning like mad. The clean up is expected to go until 2pm. At this time we will see how much has been done, and check in with each team to see how much energy everyone has. If people want to continue, we will continue. If people want to eat, we will eat. Remember that the more highway we get cleaned, the more money we earn for RDGEO.

if everyone can remember to bring gloves and possibly some pokey sticks. We'll have a limited number of extras on hand as well.

The basic itinerary is as follows:
9am: meet up (still waiting to hear back from county as to whether or not we can actually have the joffre day use area as our meet up zone. Will know by tomorrow or day after)
everyone signs in, then we have a short safety meeting. Everyone is then given their zones
930-2pm: CITO like crazy. (end time is dependent on several factors)
2pm: check to see how much has been done and how morale is. we can either keep going or end the clean up here based on general consensus
2 or 4pm: meet back at day use area. Food is eaten, prizes are given out, group shot is taken

Welcome to Red Deer and Area Geocacher's Cache in Trash Out Event.

This year we have adopted a 3km section of highway 11 to clean up as part of a 3 year agreement with the government. While we are committed to cleaning up this section once a year, this year we are going to go one step further and participate in the the Alberta Highway Clean Up program.

We have volunteered to do the section of highway 11 from the eastern city limits to as far as the joffree bridge.

At 900am on May 2, everyone will meet up in the Joffre day use area (IMPORTANT! LOCATION CHANGED,SEE TOP), which will be our main base of operations for the event. There everyone will be instructed on safety. sign the forms, and will be given their vests and supplies. No one is to be allowed to go out and clean up until they have signed in. Also, the program stipulates that no one under the age of 9 is to be out on the highways helping us clean up.
Everyone will split into groups of a minimum 4 people, and will be given a designated zone to clean up. Once your zone is clean, the group contact will touch base with one of the main contacts, and will be given another zone to clean up.

Once everyone's zones are clean (hopefully we will have cleaned as much as we can), we will gather back at the day use area for a hot dog/hamburger lunch, a group picture and prize giveaway.

We are in need of volunteers to help out. Please watch page for updates.

edit march 24:
the government is donating the safety vests, and everyone who participates in the clean up must wear one. if you can post the number of people coming in your will attend log, i then can have an idea of how many vests to pick up.

A huge thanks goes out to the following for their prize donations:
cache effect
landsharkz
world caching
gps central
pathtags

This page is still on development as we get more concrete on the details, so please keep this on your watchlist for further instructions.
