Geocache Description:

This cache is not just near the Grotto, it is IN the Grotto. The Grotto is a slightly wider area in a slot canyon, with cave-ins on both sides.

In order to get to this cache, you will need to crawl, slide, climb and otherwise navigate through at least one set of caves.

BRING A FLASHLIGHT. A head mounted light would be even better, so you don't have to hold it all the time.

BE CAREFUL. There are steep areas, there is one area with some rope left by a kind person (it's a big help, wasn't there a few years ago).

I've been through the caves about 4 or 5 times now, and it's really a lot of fun. I'm a reasonably fit 61 year old (when placed!), so if I can do it, so can you! Definitely, you don't want to do this alone, and be sure you are equipped with all the emergency and safety gear you might need.

Keep your eyes open for some of the local wildlife. Saw some barn owls. Haven't seen a snake, but it's certainly possible. Lots of owl pellets, and (we think) some Bob Cat scat.

Obviously, GPS reception will be marginal. You WILL have SOME sky, but nothing near the horizon. I did get a GPS lock near the cache, but with 3 or 4 satellites almost straight up, the accuracy was not great. Take a good look at the pictures. Bring them with you (smart phone, etc. or paper copies). The cache coordinates might be off some, assuming you do get a lock.

The cache is a medium size rubbermaid type contain, under some rocks. It was left not visible from the "main" walkway through the Grotto, but should be visible from behind the boulders the cache is partly under. Please leave it the same way, and be sure to leave some rocks on top to hold it in place.

Since you're in the Grotto, plan to go through the other set of caves at the other end, and farther down the wash to some of the other caches.

if you have any questions about the area or the caves, feel free to email me through the geocaching website.
