Geocache Description:

A nice walk along a paved path near Block House Pond in Lewes.

The pond dates back to the 1670's. In the winter the ice from the pond was cut in solid blocks and bedded down with straw for use in the summertime. Ice skating was popular here during the long cold winters until the 1920's. During the war of 1812, residents escaped the bombardment of Lewes by staying in the nearby ice house.

Today the pond area is a restored wetland forest. The area supports native Delaware flora and fauna.
