Geocache Description:

You are looking for a ammo can hidden in a triditional
way.

Cricket The U.S.S. cricket was a 178 ton stern-wheel tin clad steamer armed with 6-24 pounder howitzer cannons. She went into service under the union flag in November 1862 and patrolled the white river and it’s contributories during most of the civil war. In August 1863 she joined the Lexington and the Marmora in an expedition up the white river. The cricket continued up the little red and captured the last two confederate army transports near Searcy, the Kaskaskia and the Thomas Sugg. While returning back to the white river she was engaged in gun fire from confederate sharp shooters very near this spot. She lost 1 and had 9 wounded during the engagement. I hope that you enjoy this area and reading of its history. As always, if you have suggestions or comments on improving this cache, please state it in your log or email me at my profile link. Above all, be safe, have fun, and happy caching. While in the area visit woodwalker9’s Whitney’s Lane cache(GCMZEM).
