Geocache Description:

A formidable outcrop of Mesozoic rocks perched about four miles west of the town of Santa Clara.

There a number of dirt roads servicing this area whether you come in from Santa Clara or Bloomington. The challenge lies in determining the best point of access and the hike. Wear long pants (very brushy hike) and take plenty of water and a snack.

Once you reach the vicinity of the Fortress (and you can easily identify it) you should carefully select your approach since the ridge top narrows dramatically. Climbers have acccessed the top of the Fortress (you can see a cairn on top) but getting to the tan one-gallon cache does not require climbing skills...just common sense and caution since the footing can be loose in this type of fractured geology along the ridge top.

Have a safe journey and mind the sensitive Biological Soil Crust.
