Geocache Description:

One of a series of 12 caches that commemorate historical industrial activities on the Isle of Arran. This cache container is a 250ml tub. Each cache contains information that you will need to find the bonus cache Arran Industry - Quarry; you will have to look on other listings to find all the GeoCaches.

Arran has always been famous for its dairy products, although before the 20th Century it was Goat’s milk that attracted visitors, particulary as a health cure from the less salubrious conditions of Glasgow in the 18th and 19th Centuries. In 1933 the Scottish Milk Marketing Board set up a dairy on a farm at Bennecarrigan, at the southern end of the Ross road. The present dairy at Torylin, near Lagg, was built in 1944 and officially opened by King George VI in 1947. It is one of only two placed where Dunlop cheese can be made and if you are visiting the cache on a weekday between 10am and 3pm you may want to cross the road to watch cheese being made from the viewing gallery in the creamery.
