Geocache Description:

Valdez---Park accrued with Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Settlement Fund. Old homestead road. Covered in snow Nov-April.

Bear Bread stump Cache

Take the Richardson Highway to Valdez. The Richardson Hwy turns into Egan Street. Stay on Egan Street until crossing the Bettye Cato Bridge (locally known as "the bridge to nowhere") go left on Homestead Rd. This is a dirt road heading into a sub-division. Go Slow and watch for children at play. The road will veer to the right with a green and white gated road to the the left. Park there. The gate blocks the old homestead road, now turned into a park restricted to no motorized vehicles beyond this point.

Follow this trail. Be prepared for the usual local Alaskan fare. Rain, bugs, black bears. Devils Club and nettles abound when venturing off the trail. Keep going all the way out for a beautiful view of Valdez Bay, the trail on the mountain side to Gold Creek, all the way to the Valdez Narrows. You will pass a stump with bear bread on it. Dog Salmon Creek, and man made lagoon with huge spruce logs to sit on.
