Cache Logs
March 18 by TOHiker (2573 found)
About a month ago I was here and couldn't fine it. Today, I was working with the SMMTC volunteer trail crew just up the trail a short distance. So I took a long lunch break and came down here with Mountain Cat and Paleolith to try again. This time I came equipped with a hint - It helped. Nice hide - thanks. TNLSLS.

Found it with paleolith and TOHiker while doing maintenance on a nearby trail. Thanks for the hide.

Great spot. I've thought in hiking past here that this would make a lovely stopping point.

Today TOHiker, Mountain Cat, and I were out for an SMMTC work day. We were working on the very top of the Blue Canyon section of the BBT and stopped for lunch in the grass near the junction. From there we could see the cache's tree and decided to go for it.

Putting together all available information, we had the cache in hand in under a minute after arrival on site. Perhaps the slightly warm day tended to push us to the cooler, correct location.

Difficulty is greatly overrated though. I'd call it a 2, maybe 2.5, not 4.

Couldn't find it. I hate it when this happens. A really long hike to look for a micro in the wilderness, and under a large oak so the GPS coordinates are all over the place. But, others are finding it so I guess I shouldn't whine.

When I heard SoCalifSue, Mountain Cat, and Big Foot Moose were going to meet at Sycamore Canyon campground and do a car shuttle to the Sandstone Peak parking lot for an epic cache hike, I mooched a ride with them. I had to be home by 3 so we parted company after the long climb to the Sandstone Peak steps. I ran carefully on the downhills. There was considerable ice up there at 9 AM and even some snow in the shade. My initial goal was this cache so I covered a few miles before I checked the GPS and, much to my consternation, found that I overshot this cache by over a quarter mile. No alternative but to go back. On the way it occurred to me where the cache might be and I was right. Thanks for the challenge.

Oh, did I say I dropped another cache back up on the mountain?
