Crossroads of the World Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

New York Admin: Below is copy of an email sent to the cache owner on November 1, 2010 which has gone unanswered. Since this cache has not been updated to comply with the guideline change regarding Additional Logging Requirements as outlined in my email I am archiving it today. Should the cache owner bring this cache into compliance with the guidelines within a reasonable amount of time I will be happy to unarchive it.

Hi,

As of April 3, 2009 the guidelines regarding additional logging requirements (ALR) have changed. The guidelines at http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx#loggingofallcaches now state:

If it is appropriate for your cache location or theme, you may ask the cache seeker to accomplish an optional and simple task, either close to the cache site (normally within 0.1 miles or 161 meters) or when writing their online log. For example, wear the goofy hat inside the cache container and upload a photograph. Cache finders can choose whether or not to attempt or accomplish optional tasks. Cache owners may not delete the cache seeker's log based solely on optional tasks.

This guideline change applies immediately to all logs written from April 4, 2009 and going forward. Older caches with "additional logging requirements" (ALRs) are not grandfathered under the older guideline. If you own an existing cache with mandatory additional logging requirements, we request that you:

  • Cease deleting logs based on additional logging requirements.
  • Review your own cache listing to see if the ALR can be made into an optional and simple task, or whether it must be removed altogether.

* Adjust your geocache listing by editing the text then contact a reviewer to change the cache type, if appropriate.

This means that while you may ask a cacher to perform an additional task, it MUST be optional. You cannot delete their find because they did not perform the optional additional task

In the past we had asked for caches listed with ALRs to be listed as a mystery/unknown cache type. These should now be listed as their "natural" cache type.

Please edit your cache to indicate the ALR is optional, and remove any parts indicating that finds will be deleted if the ALR is not followed.

Thank you for your understanding.

Geocache Description:

This microcache is located at the listed coordinates. It is in the noisy, smelly and terribly overcrowded area known as Times Square. While most New Yorkers avoid it like the plague, I invite you to jump right in and find this cache. However, because of the overwhelming nature of this tourist trap, it will require the utmost stealth and skill. Do not succumb to the bright lights, novelty shops, and overpriced food or you will fail in your journey to conquer this cache.

The adventure does not end when you find the cache. After signing the log, you will have to do the following things:

1) Remove and unfold the "Found It" sign.

2) Take a picture with the sign. I'd prefer that you use one of the Earth Cams, but you are more than welcome to use your own camera. If you do use the Earth Cam, YOU HAVE TWO OPTIONS:

- the best camera is just North of TGI Fridays. It is 10 feet high and to the left of camera shop. It says 'Earth Cam' on the side. Here is the link:

http://www.earthcam.com/usa/newyork/timessquare/index.php?cam=fridays#

- If this link is frozen, use the camera that is facing down on the actual cache. It is difficult to find, so just walk ten feet North of the cache, stand on the grates, and face East. Here is the link:

http://www.earthcam.com/usa/newyork/timessquare/index.php?cam=46hd&cam_type=large

Once you've positioned yourself in front of the Earth Cam, make a phone call (there are pay phones nearby) to a friend at a computer and tell them to log onto the links I've provided. Then, when the moment is just right, tell them to capture a picture of you. This can be done very easily on the website. And if you are using the second cam, zoom in.

3) Post the photo along with your log on this page.

4) Congratulate yourself for finding a cache in one of Manhattan's most muggle-infested areas.

Please use extreme stealth when accessing this cache. Bring a pen, and be careful when you put the "Found It" sign back in the cache.

Have fun and good luck.

Sincerely,

C-Ville Elite
