Geocache Description:

This is the first of what I hope will be several caches that take you to historic Native American sites in the area. This takes you to a good place to view the Row River Valley's Indian Wedding Tree.

Legend has it that during the time that the Calapooya people were encamped in the nearby valley, they would split this tree prior to thier marriage. They believed the marriage would survive if the tree survived. It appears thier marriages survived just fine as this old Douglas Fir lives on today.

You will be traveling on a section of the Row River Bike Trail that travels between Cottage Grove, along the north side of Dorena Reservior and up to the small community of Culp Creek. This used to be a railroad bed that was used to carry logs and lumber out of the Bohemia mountains. The bridge that goes across the Row River right here was the setting for one of the scenes in the movie, Stand By Me. Other movies filmed along this same area were Emporer of the North and The General.

Although this is wheel chair accessable, assistance may be needed to recover the cache container. Please take care to replace the container like you found it.
