Geocache Description:

Kalamazoo has many city-owned parks. Some of them are basic playgrounds, some commemorate historic events, some are monuments to persons or groups, others are outstanding recreational areas. The coordinates at the top of the page do not refer to any park, they simply refer to the center of downtown Kalamazoo.

In this tour of several of the city parks you are asked to locate specific items of information in the parks. The coordinates below represent the location of the park, NOT the location of the information. At some parks you can get the clue from the comfort of your car; at other parks you’ll have to do some walking, searching, and reading. In all cases translate the letters in the words to their corresponding numeric values using A=1, B=2, C=3, …, Z=26. In the cases where the information is already a number, first write out the number in words (example: 27 = twenty seven) and then translate the words to the numeric values. The parks may be visited in any order. Please note that as of August 14, 2011 some of the clues and some of the math directions have been changed due to changes in the park specifics. This is NOT a quick adventure, it may well take you several hours (or days) to visit all the parks. The parks and clues are as follows:

Take the sum of the values from west of Burdick St., multiply by 25, then add 740. Use this 5-digit number to fill in the Y’s in W085oYY.YYY. This gives the coordinates for the cache which is located in a park not on the list. The cache is a regular size ammo box. There are all new items in the cache for trade. Lots of trees in the area of the cache - look around. Also watch out for any poison ivy.

If you want to e-mail me your values before heading out to the cache site, I'll certainly tell you which ones you might have wrong, if any.
