Congratulations to Postpile who was the First to Find Excalibur!

One request, if you are unable to complete the course due to unable to find one of the clue ammo cans, please indicate in your log which course marker you were at. It will make it easier for me to check! Thank you!

Warning, the legend of the sword in the stone has returned. The true test of your caching instinct is here. King Arthur's legendary sword, EXCALIBUR, has returned in a new form & will take you on a several mile hike through the grassy plains at the front of the park! My wife, Jodster, Puzzlelady44 & I spent several weekends mapping the orienteering course that Eagle Scout Chris Edgar has placed in the park & giving it a twist. Due to the re-arrangement of the course, the total travel distance is almost 4 miles. I hope you enjoy a true test of your skills & that you enjoy this hunt! There are 14 ammo cans in all to find. This is part of a series that I'm placing with the help of my wife, Jodster & our great friend Puzzlelady44. You will have to work for this one & I do mean work! This cache was created by special request. Someone once told me that my caches were not challenging enough. (The same person also said that my math problems were too tuff) They wanted something harder to find. Well, you know who you are, this one's for you! ;) You will find this cache in J.B. Starkey Park. Special thanks goes out to Pazooter & Clearwater Rob for help with this cache page. Without their help this cache page would not look this good. And to the park administration for allowing us to place these caches in this beautiful park! Now, Jodster & myself are usually in the park either Saturday or Sunday. We keep an FRS radio with us & on. We monitor channels 2 & 12. So if you are in the park, have an FRS radio (Motorola Talkabout) & would like help or to meet, just give us a shout! Parking is at N 28° 15.175 W 082° 38.427. Inventory when set up: First to Find certificate Verizon CPE lanyard Verizon Copy holder (Desktop) Verizon FiOS TV Copy holder w/mirror Toy dog Toy Dino Prehistoric Foam pill (place in warm/hot water for 1 minute) Red & blue Splash Bomb Pet Gospel Network book mark Congratulations to? Who will be the First to Find Excalibur! Ok, now for your test! First off, you will need some supplies for this cache! Note book or pad. Pen or pencil and most importantly, a compass! If you do not have a compass, please do not attempt this cache! From the parking lot at the corral you will find a orienteering marker on a post at the co-ordinates at the top of this page. On top of this marker are instructions for 3 different courses. Follow the instructions on this marker "AX" to the next marker for course "C". Once you are there, go on bearing of 355° 100 feet. Find the 30 cal Ammo can with your next set of instructions in it! You will need to take notes as to the compass bearings for all steps & the course marker letters that you visit. Good luck & happy hunting! May the Knights of the Round Table guide you on your journey!

Finally finished the last cache and got to the end. A time consuming, but not too strenuous exercise in hiking through a large field. Took about 8 hours altogether. Took Certified Addict Geocoin and left a new golf ball.

Found another 4 caches in this series this afternoon. Had problems finding the cache at marker BV, and had to retrace a step to check the instructions. This one was a little tricky! Hope to finish Excalibur next time out.

Thanks to Montu Rider, who replaced the first cache container, I was able to find the first 5 containers of "Excalibur" this afternoon. Hopefully, I'll get to finish the challenge tomorrow. Good exercise!

December 29, 2009 by Eagle and the nuts (286 found)
We came to the park to camp and attend the geo picnic. We heard about this cache and Momma Nut wanted to attempt it. Our 8 year old had brought his prized Cub Scout pocket knife to camp and happened to attach his little compass as well, so yesterday morning we were off on our big adventure. We started off with the kids manning the compass and mom and dad keeping track of the distance. Found out real quick that dad (Eagle) needed to take over the compass and send the kids out ahead as sighting posts along the proper heading. We had heard to keep track of everything, so mama nut wrote a book at each marker and can. She recorded all code #s, marker #, headings, number of words on the card in each can, time of day at each one, number and species of each tree in the immediate area, marker #s where the kids stopped to pee, everything that could possibly be used in the final calculations. Found the first few cans with no problems, then got stopped by # 6. We searched for that can and got very frustrated. Since we were right on the bird trail and close to the cabins, muggle activity was suspected in the disappearance of the can. We were close to camp, so we went back for lunch. After a couple hours of recovery, we went back to #6 and found the can in about a minute. Looks like the muggles had put it back while we were eating. (LOL) We quickly made our way to #9 and got stopped again. There was no can to be found. We knew this time there could not be muggle involvement, we just plain screwed up on our heading or our search. After an hour of searching, the approaching darkness and cold weather promised for the night forced us back to our campsite. This morning we started off again. We got to the marker, double checked our heading, and ended up in the same spot we searched yesterday. This time we were able to find the elusive bugger and got the info for the next leg. We quickly got to # 13 and then Mama Nut pulled out her pile of books and we started extracting the the info needed for the calculations required to get the final coords. We used the handy dandy calculator built into her Garmin Colorado to get the figures needed. We keyed in our results and excitedly took off on our search for the last can. We got to the coords and WOW, WE FOUND IT! Right on the money. We got it right the first time. The kids sorted out all the cool swag. We took a coin and dropped a different one.
We have joined the ranks of the elite. The Few, the Proud, The Excalibur! Our thanks to Montu Rider and others involved in this. You worked so hard to bring so much misery to so few people.
