Geocache Description:

This cache requires some decent and could be slippery at times. Indian Creek flows nearby, so cache availability is dependent on this. Please place the cache back in the same location you found it to ensure it sticks around for a while and doesn't end downstream somewhere.

This is a tribute cache to Richard Fox, the Marion Parks and Recreation Director that approves all the Marion caches that get placed. He has never said no to Team Marion, so we felt this cache was long overdue.

Marion History

The community was named after Francis Marion, who was a hero of the Revolutionary War. The area was selected in 1839 to be the first county seat of Linn County, Iowa. After years of debate over moving the county seat to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, it was put to a vote in 1919. The vote was 9,960 in favor of moving the seat and 4,823 not in favor.

Marion Parks and Recreation

The Marion Park and Recreation Department is responsible for 16 city parks, Oak Shade Cemetery, the Lowe Park Arts and Environment Center, Willowood Pool and the Boyson Hiking-Biking Trail. The Marion Park and Recreation Department also offers many recreational and cultural opportunities for everyone in the area.
