Geocache Description:

The cache is NOT at the above coordinates...

It all started when I got a letter out of the blue from a Japanese colleague from university. I hadn’t heard from him in years since we studied ancient languages together.

I knew that Dr Mori Gai-zen had since gone on to investigate the darker side of our subject. How deep he had gone and how dark it got I can now only begin to imagine…

My Dearest Friend,

This will come as a surprise, but not a shock I feel. You have to help… You’re my only chance - the only one I can trust.

We were so close. We had it in our grasp then fate turned its ugly face towards us and laughed. We had all the pieces of the rune cipher in our hands but underestimated just how far they would go to protect their secrets.

They found us – but not before we had time to hide the fragments we had discovered deep in the heart of a game you call Geocaching. We thought in here we would find like minds, someone who would share our passion and would have the mind required to undo this fiendish puzzle.

We scattered the four pieces to the farthest flung caches in the county, to all the points of the compass. If you can find just one piece – each will then lead you to the next. I know this is a huge thing to ask but you simply must find it before they do. It will take a dedicated soul indeed to complete this mission but I know someone as bright as you my friend will have the vision to see this through.

You cannot take the pieces - they are simply too valuable so you must take some tracing paper and trace each piece as you find it. I can tell you little, and it will be difficult, but you must trace the runic markings EXACTLY. We know there are primers within the centre of the runes to show how the pieces fit together. When you have traced all the pieces on to your paper you will have in your hands the answer to the puzzle, if you can then unlock the runes you will discover the final resting place.

I wish you well.

Your friend,

The Doctor.

So – that’s it. My friend is out of his depth, and so am I. All I can tell you is that this is a serious undertaking. When copied correctly the rune cipher can be traced exactly on to an A5 piece of paper, from there – it’s up to you.

This is probably not one to attempt in one outing. It can be done with mobile mapping & remote access to the net (or a mobile phone and a very patient home team!) however the total distance if done as a round trip is a little over 250k so would make for one hell of a days’ caching. Please do not mention the location of the puzzle pieces if logging your finds for the first caches!.

Good Luck.
