Geocache Description:

Just above grassy path

In 2002 I hid a cache in the Happy Valley but have now archived it as the location was no longer acceptable. As I enjoy visiting this place so much, here is its replacement, using its Welsh name.
The Happy Valley road runs from Cwrt on the main Machynlleth to Aberdovey road (A493) towards Tywyn and until 1827 when the Turnpike was engineered along the Dovey must have been the main route between the towns. Parking is possible with care not to obstruct gates where indicated. This has been the starting or finishing place for many happy walks on the ridge of the Tarren Hills which include my caches at Trum Gelli (GC1ZAQX) and Tarren Memorial (GC1E7E) as well as forcesofnature’s Tarrenhendre (GC10RC4), the route up and waypoints are indicated on the webpage for my Trum Gelli cache.
If you continue along the road towards Tywyn, in a couple of kilometres you will find a car park from which you can climb to Llyn Barfog (the Bearded Lake) and perhaps also find Carn March Arthur a rock which legend has it bears the imprint of King Arthur’s horse when he slew the local dragon. Further on in Tywyn you will find the terminus of the Tal-y-Llyn Railway which gives access to several more caches.
The cache itself overlooks a lovely green valley with views also of the Dovey estuary and the RSPB Ynys-hir Reserve. You have a good chance of seeing Red Kites and Ravens in the skies
above and maybe be shaken by the passage of a Hawk or Tornado (the RAF sort).

Please rehide with care so the cache may hopefully remain dry – it does rain occasionally round here.

I hope no-one is upset by the nearby skeleton of a sheep.
