Geocache Description:

Blackett's Ridge Trail in Sabino Canyon.

This location may provide the most comprehensive views of the area. Facing north from the end of Blackett's Ridge you'll have an excellent view of most of Sabino Canyon with the tram road and Phoneline Trail far below you. To the south and west you'll have an unobstructed view of Tucson. Blackett's Ridge Trail is a popular hike for those who like a brisk workout trail (translation: relatively steep and continually uphill) that can be completed in a few hours - car back to car. The round trip hike is approximately 6 miles and has a vertical rise of approximately 1,600 feet, with most of the altitude gain on Blackett's Ridge Trail.

From the Sabino Canyon parking lot, proceed east on dirt and paved roads approximately 0.8 miles toward the Bear Canyon area. At coordinates N32 18.689, W110 48.606, you'll come to the trailhead for the Phoneline Trail. Take Phoneline Trail for perhaps 0.5 miles to where the marked trailhead for Blackett's Ridge Trail will be found on the east side of the trail. This "T" intersection will be found before Phoneline Trail enters Sabino Canyon. Follow Blackett's Ridge Trail to the cache site which is located not far from the end of the trail - approximately 1.7 miles from its intersection with the Phoneline Trail. (As you leave the east pedestrian exit from the parking lot, you'll find a large map that will allow you to get a perspective of the entire hike.)

The cache is a screw cap, plastic container painted flat gray, and it's stocked with two matchbox cars and several airplanes. This hike is popular and few places on the upper part of the ridge are out of sight of the trail. Please use discretion when accessing the cache.
