Geocache Description:

Located near a big red gate.

History: The area of the cache has a lot of history behind it. When you first visit the cache you will more than likely find a big red gate that stops drivers from continuing on this road. The gate was put up by the city of Waverly for emergency uses. The last time of use was the flood of 1999. Only two roads, not including this one, will lead residents on this side of town into town. The only problem with these roads is that when the river floods these will be one of the first roads to be engulfed by the water. As a result, the city of Waverly has taken a dead end road and turned into an emergency exit for the local residents when the roads are flooded. The new gate you see today was put up after the 1999 flood. I live near the exit and I had to use this gate to exit back in 1999. As a local here, the gate gets the name “flood gate” for the reasoning being that the gate is only open when there is a flood.

Cache contents: since this cache is a small cache there is only a small pencil and log book inside, this cache has no room for trade.
