This cache is part of the “DCNR - Legacy of Conservation” Geocaching Trail (see “Related Web Page” link above). Collect all the Pennsylvania Legacy of Conservation cards – one from each of the 30 caches in the trail – and show them all at one of the validation centers to receive a Legacy of Conservation geocoin (non-trackable). This geotrail will be archived on June 30, 2013.
You have two choices for accessing this cache – downstream or upstream. The downstream access is 2.5 miles to the cache (5 miles round trip). You can use the ski trail heading that direction as well if you want to use a mountain bike – it will get you pretty close. The upstream access is much shorter (.7 mile) but has a couple of minor wet crossings – I went during high water and only got two inches of my boots wet, balancing on rocks and such. The cache is directly along the trail – no need to bushwhack. From the cache location you should be able to hear the main falls. (There are two waterfalls - a smaller one to the south and a larger one with a 30 foot drop to the north.) Please use caution in the area. The walls are high, steep, and slippery. Easiest access to the scenery from below is to head South along the trail to approximately N41 39.653 W77 11.659, then over the side – carefully. The scenery from above is just up the trail to the North (use caution – slippery). This is one of the gems of Tioga State Forest – please keep it that way and practice CITO – could be a major job at times. While you are in the area, check out the other interesting sites along the way. The ghost town of Landris is just down the road from the lower access, with two markers to guide you. And up the road from the lower access is a pair of upflow wells for treating the AMD (acid mine drainage) due to the historic mining in the area.
