From Corral Pass, this cache is a 3-mile round trip on the Noble Knob Trail (Trail 1184) with only 250 feet of elevation gain. The container is a medium Lock&Lock. Be sure to bring water and your camera, and a Northwest Forest Pass is required to park. Enjoy!
Note: The road to Corral Pass has a seasonal closure after the first significant snowfall, often around mid-October (I found this out the hard way). It's gated for the winter at White River trailhead, 5 miles below Corral Pass. If you are as crazy as I was, it's a 6.5-mile hike or bike with 2900 feet of elevation gain from the gate to the cache. (That's 13 miles round trip.)
For the ultimate experience, do a summer through-hike from Corral Pass, which will garner you three caches in about 12 miles, descending 3,180 feet. (Terrain rating goes up to 3.5.) Park one vehicle at the Greenwater Lakes trailhead (Trail 1176) and drive the other up to Corral Pass. A Northwest Forest Pass is required at both parking areas.
From Corral Pass, you’ll hike first to this cache (1.5 miles), then do your uphill climb on the way to Noble Knob (3.5 miles in). After taking in the great views there, you’ll descend 2,000 feet in 2.5 miles to Lost Lake (6 miles in). If you hike this section in late summer, you'll be treated to fields of some of the plumpest, sweetest huckleberries we've tasted. Then it’s a leisurely few more miles to the Greenwater Lakes cache – the lakes really are green, and the log bridges are cool – followed by a final stroll to the parking lot.
