How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

The Coordinates on this page are BOGUS, DO NOT USE THEM TO ATTEMPT TO FIND THIS CACHE. The coordinates will take you to a library that will have reference books to help solve the puzzles.

TRAVEL BUGS MILEAGE MAY BE INCORRECT.
Geocaching rules state that the bogus coordinates should be within a few miles of the actual cache for correct travel bug mileage. The bogus coordinates above may be more than a few miles away. You need to remember this if placing travel bugs into this cache.

THIS CACHE IS NOT FOR BEGINNERS OR MICRO JUNKIES although the first stage is a micro size container. If you are new to geocaching, team up with an experienced cacher or try this one after finding all of the other North Louisiana caches. This is an adult themed cache for the avid FTF and adventure junkie. Although children can participate in this, an adult will be required to solve the puzzles and retrieve the caches.

This is a double offset puzzle cache. With each leg the puzzles get a little easier (kind of) and the containers get a little bigger. If you are from out of town, and do not have access to the internet, the library will have reference books that can help you solve the second two puzzles. All three stops are on public land and have 24 hour access. At two of the three stops you may be asked what you are doing. At all three stops you will have to walk in. At two of the three stops, depending on your point of entry, you may encounter a “No Trespassing” sign. You will not need to go on the posted property at either stop, there is a way around. All three stops are near water, but that could be a ditch, a river, a lake or pond.

To solve the first puzzle you will need the following:
1. King James Version of the Holy Bible (in North Louisiana this can be obtained on nearly any street corner because there is a church at nearly every intersection) If you are visiting, most motel’s have a Giddeons bible in the room (and The Giddeons use the King James Version)
2. Patience (because it’s gonna take a lotta time)
3. Phone Book (to call for help when you can’t solve the first puzzle, please note LostInWestMonroe is now unlisted)

For the first stop:
Fill in the needed information using the following outline:
N. 32 A B . C D E
W.092 F G . H I J

The Puzzle:

CAN YOU FIND 20 BOOKS OF THE BIBLE IN THIS PARAGRAPH?

Someone showed me this story and remarked that there are twenty books of the Bible hidden here. He challenged me to find them. Sure enough they’re all here. Still this thing’s a lulu. Kept me looking so hard for the longest time. Some of you will get bogged down with facts; others are hit by them like they were some kind of revelation or something. You may get in a jam, especially since the names are not capitalized and often leap the spaces between the words. This makes it a real job to find them, but it’ll provide a most fascinating few minutes for you. Yes there are some real easy ones to spot, but don’t get the big head because truthfully you’ll soon figure that it would take most federal judges and scholars numbers of hours to find them all. I will admit that it usually takes the preacher to find one of them and that is not uncommon for there are to be loud lamentations when it is pointed out. One lady says that when she is confronted with puzzles like this she brews a cup of tea to help her concentrate better, but then this gals a real pro! Verbs, nouns, and all that stuff are her thing. See how well you can compete. Relax! There really are twenty names of Bible books in this story. If you fail to find them there’s a penalty. You’ll have to go fly a kite, sit on a banana, hum the battle hymn of the republic, or hose a dog (a mean one). Get it!!

Once you have found all twenty books in the above paragraph, you will need to list them by proper name in the order they appear above using the following formula to solve for the needed coordinates:
If A = 1, B = 2, C = 3, D = 4 etc. Then:

To solve for A:
The sum of the letters of books 12, 8, 4, 15, 1
Minus the sum of the letters of books 9, 5, 18, 7, 16

To solve for B:
The sum of the letters of books 12, 5, 6, 20, 10
Minus the sum of the letters of books 13, 17, 8, 2, 11

To solve for C:
The sum of the letters 1, 2, & 5 from book 5
Minus the sum of letters 3, 5, & 6 from book 14

To solve for D:
The sum of the letters of book 7 from the New Testament
Minus the sum of the letters of book 1 from the Old Testament
Divided by 10

To solve for E:
The sum of the letters of books 15 & 7
Minus 8
Divided by 18

To solve for F:
The sum of the letters of books 6,10,8,& 1
Minus the sum of the letters of books 20,11,2,& 4

To solve for G:
The sum of the letters of books 2,6,12, & 3
Minus the sum of the letters of books 8,20,13, & 19

To solve for H:
The sum of the letters of books 5,1,6, & 10
Minus the sum of the letters of books 17,2,20, & 11

To solve for I:
The sum of letters 4,5,1, & 3 from book 17
Minus the letters 1,2,3, & 5 from book 12

To solve for J:
The sum of the letters of books 11,19,5,15, & 9
Minus the sum of the letters of books 10,18,17,13 & 7
divided by 20

Don't forget that all of the above are solved with the books and letters in the order they appear in the puzzle.

When you have successfully solved all of the above, you will have earned the right to proceed to find a very well cammoed and hid match safe containing the next puzzle. Terrain is 1 and the difficulty of hide is a 5. If you have solved the puzzle correctly it will be obvious where the cache is. (So you will not have to worry about searching in the wrong place email me with your solved puzzle answer and I will verify if it is correct, also I have posted a slightly concealed geocaching marker - hide is within 10 feet of it) Puzzle #2 is very common but has several variations, you can find them all at the above coordinates (the Library) When you arrive and find it, take 1 sheet and leave the rest for future Geocachers. When the container gets down to 2 (two) puzzle sheets, please post a note and I will add more to it.

When you have successfully solved the second puzzle you will proceed to find a slightly larger container containing the final puzzle. Terrain is 3-1/2 to 5 depending on the weather (DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS DURING OR IMMEDIATELY AFTER A RAIN, YOU WILL GET HURT. IF YOU ARE NOT SURE OF YOUR PHYSICAL ABILITY TAKE SOME ONE THAT IS. I DO NOT RECOMMEND TAKING SMALL CHILDREN ON THIS LEG), the hide is a 3 to 4-1/2 depending on the weather. There is a hidden clue for the second stage, it is on the puzzle page. It will only help you when you get very close to the cache. Puzzle #3 is also very common and has several variations, you can find them all at the above coordinates (the Library). When you arrive and find it, take only 1 (one) sheet and leave the rest for future Geocachers. When the container gets down to 2 (two) puzzle sheets, please post a note and I will add more to it.

When you have successfully solved the last puzzle you will be ready to proceed to the final cache. Terrain is 1-1/2 to 2 and the hide is 1-1/2 to 2. This is a full size cache with full size goodies for boys and girls of all ages. Good Luck and Happy Hunting!
