Geocache Description:

Helmont Kellogg (1762-1848) - one of Wisconsin's few Revolutionary War patriots. Please be respectful...

The cache has been downsized to a med sized pill bottle that can hold small travel bugs...hopefully this will deter container collectors... BYO pen just in case the one in this smaller cache goes missing. This cache was placed with approval of the custodian of this cemetery.

In the Journal Times August 21, 2011, Kimber Solana wrote: Kellogg served more than 13 months during the [Revolutionary] war. After the war, the Connecticut native moved to Wisconsin in 1837 with his family, and settled at what is now the intersection of Interstate 94 and Highway KR [just north of the cemetery]. The area, called Kellogg's Corners, was where a creamery, post office, church, school and blacksmith shop once stood.

The "SQ" in the cache name above signifies Spirit Quest, a project started in Indiana (GCHRFJ) to distinguish caches that are set in cemeteries. The idea has since spread throughout the Midwest and elsewhere.

To find Helmont and his wife Susannah: enter grounds. Head in to his large Historical Marker. Turn left (south). Head south about 3/4 to the end. He has a large new stone in addition to the original, right next to a large pine tree. Coords: N42 40.904 W087 57.225
