Baskin & Route 31, a series of cache and dashes near NJ Route 31.
(See Map) The caches are bison tubes that are NOT on, in or associated with the guard rail. Bring your own pen. These caches and others near by (GC1V4HF, GC1KY3D, GC1PBVZ, GC1H6PN and GC1XYDW should give you 35+ caches in four hours. The JAB# C&D series, along the Musconetcong River and a few others and you could get 50 in a day. Run up those numbers.Southbound
Route 31 runs 49 miles from Trenton, NJ north to U.S. Route 46 in Buttzville, NJ. The highway was constructed beginning in 1927. It was known as Route 30 between 1927 and 1953, when it was renumbered to Route 69 to avoid conflicting with U.S. Route 30 in southern New Jersey. It was renumbered to Route 31 in 1969 due to sign theft. So many signs had been stolen, that on the back of each 69 sign was the stenciled warning, "HEAVY PENALTY FOR REMOVAL." This warning was not found on other routes!
The sign stealing on Route 69 may well have peaked when the class of 1969 was in school, and was probably the straw that broke the back of the NJDOT and led to the re-designation as Route 31.
