How Geocaching Works
Highway 151 starts in Des Moines, Iowa, and travels northeast to Manitowoc, Wisconsin.
Years ago, the Madison area decided to call this route the "Holiday Highway". Iowans could leave home on Friday late afternoon and head into Wisconsin, staying overnight in Madison, Beaver Dam, or Fond du Lac, before making there way to Lake Michigan at the end of the route.
After a day at the beach, they would head back southwest toward home, hopefully spending another overnight in one of these cities.
The idea was to bring out-of-state money into Wisconsin and develope tourism. At the time, agriculture was the #1 industry in the state.
This highway has sinced bloomed into a major 4-lane artery, which now bypasses the city of Fond du Lac, with only the stretch from Fond du Lac to Manitowoc remaining as a 2-lane road.
