Frenchman's Lighthouse Forage Traditional Geocache
marrc: Now that the state has posted the island, I am forced to archive this listing. It's a shame, it used to be a nice place to boat to, explore and picnic. Thanks to all those that made the trip over and searched for it.
Poof! it's gone.

Located on Frenchman Island on Oneida lake
The Lighthouse on Frenchman Island was built when the State Barge Canal was re-routed to the north of the city of Syracuse, using Oneida Lake in the 1910's. It's a massive concrete structure though overgrown, is still operational.
Frenchman is the largest island on the lake. It is a haven for many species of birds and plant life. Some of the trees there appear to be well over 100 years old. Trails encircle the whole island.
You'll need a boat to get there in the warmer months, snowshoes or a snowmobile to get there when the lake is frozen. It's a great place to take a picnic lunch to and go for a hike. There is a large steel dock on the south side of the island for larger boats to dock, canoes and kayaks can come ashore almost anywhere.
The cache is a small tupperware container, containing survival items, ( lighter, matches, knife, magnifing glass).
Have fun!!
