Farewell Arizona Cache In Trash Out Event

This cache has been archived.

Brian - Team A.I.: Thank you to all those who attended. While I was afraid turnout would be very low, the numbers in attendance were great. Despite the heat, your desire to participate was very humbling for me, and I will mess every one of you (even those who weren't able to attend).

I will visit AZ periodically, so watch out! [:)]

As the current owner of the permit for this stretch in the Adopt-A-Highway Program, I felt it was my responsibility to coordinate the second (and final for me) cleanup of the highway before relocating to Billings, MT. This is the best way I can think of to give back to a community that I've had the pleasure of being a part of for the last 3 years.

The briefing will be at 6am, the same place as the first cleanup (N33 27.947 W111 46.689).

ADOT Adopt-A-Highway Cleanup Rules:

* Carpool to work site and keep vehicles off the right-of- way of state highway

* Make sure workers wear safety vests provided by ADOT

* Face oncoming traffic

* Avoid overexertion

* Stop work in inclement weather

* Do not remove hazardous substances

* Avoid contact with noxious weeds and areas where herbicides have been applied

* Do not pick up items on bridges or on the pavement

* Do not bring children under 12 to the Adopt-a-Highway area

***A waiver must be signed by each participant in the cleanup, which I will have on hand at the safety briefing prior to heading out to the clean-up site.

We will be focusing primarily on the southbound side this time, as most of the efforts were directed at the northbound side. I never contacted ADOT about the issue of having both sides, because it just gave us that much more visibility to drivers using the Beeline. Some work is needed on the northbound side, but a far cry less than before. Teams will probably be assigned 3/4 to the southbound and 1/4 to the northbound to walk the area and clean it up again. Providing these cleanups are scheduled quarterly, the time it takes will diminish greatly. Those who attended the first cleanup remember it only took about an hour to knock out the northbound side.

I realize that July is a HOT month, which is why the meeting is going to start at 6am. The plan is to be cleaning the highway by 6:30, and done by 7:30-8:00 with both sides. After cleanup plans are still TBD.

Oh, and the trash bag problem will be handled more appropriately this time. :)
