View of the former Tumble Inn in the distance. Near designated California Hiking Trail. Parking nearby in turnout.
While looking for a place for a cache that had a view of the Tumble Inn foundations, YD noticed this relic of the past. YJ, being a water, gas, power person, had to explore it closer. At first we thought it was for transporting water to the Tumble Inn (hence the Hot Bath for 25 cents title). Now we are not so sure. You tell us ... what is this? Please replace camo and try to avoid creating obvious geotrails.

3-30-2007: An article at (visit link) indicates that the large cement lined reservoir at Reservoir Summit was supplied from a natural spring on Liebre Mountain just above Sandberg's. The pipeline followed the Ridge Route and supplied water to other sites along the way. It is entirely possible that this gate valve and pipe are part of the water distribution system referred to in the article.

In April 2008, we had the pleasure of working as volunteers with the Ridge Route Preservation Organization (RRPO) on re-setting some rocks at the Tumble Inn, taking measures to prevent four-wheel and motorcycle damage to the Inn remains, and working to clear out drainage culverts (hard work!). We brought noted Ridge Route researcher and author Harrison Irving Scott ("Scotty") to this old valve to check it out. We learned more about the Ridge Route from him and the RRPO members learned about geocaching! If you would like to volunteer to work on the Ridge Route, or even just learn more about the route, go to the RRPO's website at www.ridgeroute.com

Donvsop, Jellis and I did some pre-holiday caching for few days down in the fertile Antelope Valley. Much thanks to all the local cachers for the over 400 caches we found along the way.

We were planning to have a hot bath somewhere this 4-day weekend. But alas, there were none in sight. Backpacking style baths are not my favorite.
