SVCA #1 - Palermo Preserve Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Ms Toastmaster: I really shouldn't have placed this so far off the trail so I've picked it up. I am archiving this one and will, hopefully, have another one out soon. Thanks to all who searched.

Geocache Description:

This is a large painted coffee can tied to a tree.

The Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association is sponsoring a geo-caching challenge. There will be one challenge cache at each of the SVCA's 7 preserves (Palermo, Whitefield Salmon, Stetser, Trout Brook, Bass Falls, Griggs and Marsh River)
Each of the challenge caches will have a coupon redeemable for a SVCA tee shirt as the FTF prize. Any cacher is welcome to claim as many of the FTF's as he or she can get but, please, only one tee shirt per cacher. There will be a special prize for any cacher that gets all 7 FTFs. And further, any one who gets all seven caches at any time between 5/29/10 and 9/6/10 will get a prize (there are special ones for the children). In order to claim those prizes you must bookmark your finds and make the list public/shared. Prizes can be claimed at the SVCA office at 624 Sheepscot Road in Newcastle.

The following information is from the SVCA brochure: Palermo preserve is our most ecologically diverse property, the Preserve is 74 acres and is situated along the upper reaches of the Sheepscot. Several vernal pools, streams, and a red maple swamp are located on the preserve. Approximately a mile of trails wind through mixed forest and along the banks of the river.

This cache is a large painted coffee can bungee corded to a tree in plain sight. That's the good news...the bad news is this cache is a bushwhack of about 250 ft off the Spur trail.Sorry. This is why I rated the terrain so high and, obviously, it will not be a good cache for little children. Older kids should be fine (no danger, just not a real good path to it).

Please remember that hunting is allowed so during hunting seasons WEAR ORANGE.

It really is in plain sight so you shouldn't need a hint. The coffee can is painted black and the bungee cord is yellow.

While out here, if you haven't already gotten them, there are 3 other caches for your searching pleasure: GC1B9DZ,GC20H8F,GCZJ09. Enjoy!
