Got Skills? III: Dam Details Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

fox-and-the-hound: It is with great sadness that we commit this cache to it's geo-grave today [:(] A horribly destructive muggling has put this cache beyond redemption unfortunately. Thankfully the cache maggots that destroyed were neither persistent enough nor clever enough to deduct it's final resting position so the final cache itself has been recovered while the rest of the stages are gone now. I considered long and hard about how to fix this cache, but upon review it simply isn't possible considering the great lengths (and necessary math/details) we went through to put it in action to start with. Those of you who completed the cache will certainly understand what we mean. We will replace with a traditional cache as a PMO in the near future because we certainly still feel this is a great place to come visit with a camera and a sense of adventure though. Stay tuned and thank you everyone who's ever set foot on the trail to locating this cache! We appreciate your feedback, related stories and especially the pictures you sent that never made postings!!! LOL We still cringe at our winter waders!

Geocache Description:

Welcome brave cachers to Got Skills III: Dam Details. Like Skills I and Skills II, this third in a series will test your caching prowess and determination.

Unlike the first two in the series, this cache can and should be enjoyed by the whole family. Terrain is much easier here (roughly 1 mile round trip walk on flat terrain) than with our previous caches with only a few exceptions and parental guidance should be the rule with young cachers. This cache will specifically test your memory, logic and math skills much more so than any physical skills. Public Parking can be found on location at N41 42.953 W075 23.740 IT WILL BE VERY IMPORTANT TO MAKE NOTE OF ANY AND ALL THINGS YOU’VE OBSERVED WHETHER ON SITE OR IN THE MULTIPLE STAGES CLUES TO FIND THE FINAL CACHE. While not at all necessary, a calculator and digital camera could prove to be very useful tools in completing this cache. This area is a working testing ground for the Pennsylvania Fish Commission and the ongoing effort to strengthen our local water environments. This is a rich habitat with abundant local wildlife so don’t forget to bring your camera and binoculars. On our various visits over the past few months we have observed a number of Herons, Geese, Ducks, Raptors, Turtles, Fish and Amphibians on every visit. Recently work has been in progress to restore and improve this study area causing a delay in placing this cache. Please be careful to replace cache parts EXACTLY WHERE AND HOW YOU FOUND THEM to preserve them for future cachers. Please be mindful while visiting to not disturb the natural inhabitants while visiting. So let’s begin… Stage 1: “The Might of Man” Upon arriving at the coords you will want to take special note of all the characteristics of the working dam system. There are various clues that will be used repeatedly throughout the multiple cache stages. Be sure to write down notes of the things you observe here. You will need to find these clues in your search: 1) Number of Iron Brackets holding up the wooden grate: 2) Number of NEW Wood Planks making up the wooden grate: 3) Number of Stone Steps in the staircase: 4) The Name chiseled in script above the number 41 on the top step: 5) All the info written on the green street signs perpendicular to the road in front of the dam: 6) Number of sluice gates holding back the water flow from the culvert pipe under the road: 7) These and other details you observe along the way will be necessary for finding the final cache. Good hunting! ****PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE OR MOVE ANY STONE WORK FOUND ANYWHERE ON THE PREMISES - ALL STAGES CAN BE FREELY AQUIRED WITHOUT DOING SO**** Fox & the Hound are proud members of the Northeast Pennsylvania Geocachers.
