Geocache Description:

Located on the North Bend Rail Trail east of Cairo West Virginia

As the name might suggest, this cache has a train theme similar to Whoo! Whoo!. It is a blue ammo box decorated in the theme of the cache and contains various train items (but any items are welcome).

The cache can be accessed by parking at any access to the Rail Trail, however the closest parking coordinates are at the Country Trails Bike Shop: N 39 12.539 and W 081 09.362. The 6 tenths of a mile walk is level rail trail through spectacular scenery including what we think is a topped-off tunnel, a foot bridge and river views.

Short History (same as the Whoo! Whoo! Cache)
This section of the Northwestern Virginia Railroad, later known as the B&O Parkersburg Branch, was a vital link between the B&O's mainline and the Gateway of the West, St. Louis Missouri. Construction of this line began in 1852 and lasted over five years, with an estimated construction cost of more than 5 million dollars (an amazing amount in 1852). When the N.Va RR was opened on May 1st, 1857, the 103 mile line extended west from the B&O at Grafton to the Ohio River at Parkersburg, WV, where trains crossed the river via barges and connected with the Marietta and Cincinnati Railroad at Belpre, Ohio.

The final train between Grafton and Parkersburg was a Grafton Heritage Festival excursion that made the roundtrip on September 1st, 1985, ending an era that had lasted just over one hundred and twenty eight years. The Parkersburg Subdivision's rail remained down until 1989 when CSX pulled the section up between Wilsonburg and Walker, WV.

Once CSX pulled the rails the trail left behind was changed to The North Bend Rail Trail. It is a multi-use recreational trail operated by West Virginia State Parks. The trail is part of the 5,500 mile coast-to-coast American Discovery Trail. Stretching 72 miles from I-77 near Parkersburg in Wood County to Wolf Summit in Harrison County, this scenic trail passes through 13 tunnels and crosses 36 bridges.
