Short hike out into the Leicestershire countryside
One good starting point is at N 52 44.682’ W001 14.815’
There is parking available in the Outwoods carpark about 500m up the road. see Nicknrik's log below, you can make your way from the carpark via Outwoods then crossing the road to the start point above. As an alternative if you fancy a slightly longer stroll along hidden valley itself (just over 5 km round trip).
1: Make your way to the Beacon Hill Country Park (N52 43.588' W001 14.812)
Parking is £1 from dawn to dusk. Dont forget to check out several other close by caches.
2: Leave the park via the North entrance (N52 43.763' W001 15.039') onto Jubilee walk.
3: Cross Deans Lane onto the permissive path towards (N52 44.190' W001 15.501') and drop down into the valley
4: At the valley bottom turn right towards (N52 44.409' W001 15.074').
5: From here its straight uphill to the cache at coordinates above. Hope you enjoy it's a great route.
As you approach cache use clearings to get a good fix and head on in. Cache itself was placed with a fairly good view of the sky and position was averaged several times. If you look around you can use good footpaths from the road to within a few meters of the cache site. Dont let the trees fool you, if in doubt head for the view.
Cache can be reached without diving into a gorse bush, although it is close to one.
From the cache site if you want to make it a really pleasant loop trail make your way to (there is a footpath) N52 44.422’ W001 14.837’ (trail split)
From here you can get back to the road at N52 44.488’ W001 14.606’ (back to road)
Cross over the road and enter woods 100m or so to the North West.
If you follow footpath parallel to the road you should end up back where you started. Total round trip less than a mile. Parts of the route are permissive and are available dawn to dusk.
