Geocache Description:

Visit Paradise

Tought since I already have a cache in Hell (Helvete), Visit Hell (GCJTEN), I had to make this one to :-).

Paradis is located in Skeikampen, close to the place I was born, it has been a point to visit for tourists for
many years. In the older days residents at Høifjellssanatoriet i Gausdal had one of there
goals to reach this area by foot, for relaxation and on the warm summer days a swim in Skeiselva (Skei river).
This has always been a quiet spot for tourists and it is very nice to spend some time there on varm summer
nights. I would guess that on every June 23. (midsummer day) people have been celebrating there with
a fire and Bar-B-Q.

As a child I was often down here trying to catch the small fishes in the slow running river.
Last years the area has been used for different activities such as dog sledge rides, horse riding, a camp for
people going on “Kanefart” horse sledge rides, etc. etc.

You can access the area from different locations, I have set up 2 places where you can park your car.
One is about 800 m walk and the other a bit shorter.

From N 61 20.202 E 010 04.902 you can park close by and follow the trail and shortly after pass a
caravan camping area and a old barn. The gate you pass under on the trail have been named “pearly gate”,
unofficially of course.

After about 500 m the trail separates where the new horse riding trail turns south and you can see a ugly
container in front of you, you may wonder why they put a container here? It holds two very heavy duty pumps
for pumping the water up about 350 height meters to the mountain, to make artificial snow so the skiing season
can start as early as possible. Follow the trail to the north and you find the area shortly after.

From N 61 19.987 E 010 04.053 it is a shorter walk, but some might say it is nicer to follow the
trail along the river. I am at present not sure if the road to this parking lot is a toll road or not.
It used to be but not sure if it will be in the future. I will correct this info as soon as it comes to my knowledge.

Be aware of the river running close by the cache, be very careful when the water freezes and the ice can be
dangerous, caution alsoin spring when the river can be open under the layer of snow.

The cache is a small round container with a few trade items, log, pencil and note.
Please replace carefully as it was placed.
The cache should be accessible all year, in winter normaly there should be prepared tracks close by.
This is the first of several caches I will place in my childhood area and as a tribute to my parents for
letting me spend my childhood here and all they have done for the area..

There are 3 other caches in the area:
Skeikampen(GCJTEN)
Bjørga(GCWKCP)
Knutsholoa(GCP7BA)
