City Hall Cardiff
One of the buildings in which Cardiff’s local government
resides, is City Hall. This impressive Edwardian building was
opened in 1906 and can be found in Cathays Park in the heart of the
city. There are a number of sculptures adorning the outside of the
building, but for our river theme we want you to focus on the two
groups flanking the central dome as they represent Cardiff’s
maritime associations. If you face the building, the left sculpture
depicts Neptune (standing for ‘the sea’) and the
sculpture on the right represents the rivers Taff, Rhymney and Ely.
The first group was sculpted by F. W. Pomeroy and the second by
Henry Poole**).
If you are interested in finding
the final bonus cache, have a look at the picture inside the cache
and guess which river is depicted on it. It might be handy to take
a camera with you to photograph the information and do the research
at home.
Please note that you make sure
you replace the container exactly as you found it!
This cache is part of a series of caches around Cardiff's
rivers, but as we are waiting for the completion of the Ely trail
the series is still unfinished.
