On
1-25-04, I replaced the missing cache with a new one, located near where the
original cache was. The coordinates above are for the new location.
Now go out there and find it.
This cache has been
generously stocked with all kinds of freshwater fishing lures.
If you plan on making a trade, make sure you bring a small freshwater lure.
Please make sure the lure is in the original packaging (bubble pack or box) so
that no one gets hooked when digging through the cache. Also, please don't
put any used lures in the cache as the hooks will rust and make a mess out of
the ammo box.
The cache is accessed via the seldom traveled Egret Trail that is on the
south side of the lake. The short hike to the cache is very enjoyable with
nice lake views along the way. To get to the trailhead, take Oakvale Road
to the parking turnoff at N 33 09.980 W 116 59.851. You can park right
next to
the
trailhead at N 33 10.039 W 116 59.845.
If you do this cache early in the morning, stop off at the little
restaurant on the north side of the lake to have a good breakfast. Mrs.
Rocket Man and I used to have Sunday morning breakfast at the restaurant when we
would drop our son off at the Hidden Valley Paintball field close by.
Happy Geocaching,
Rocket Man
Cache History
The original cache
was hidden in the rocks far from the waters edge. In the fall of 2003, the
lake level rose by a tremendous amount and actually covered the cache.
Here are the Before and After Photos
of the original cache. I suspected that the cache was under the water, but
in January the lake receded slightly to reveal that the cache was gone.
