Warning

Please note: To use the services of geocaching.com, you must agree to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

The coordinates given above are for the trailhead for The River Trail. Expect your GPSr to bounce around a lot. You'll need to do some old fashioned searching to bag this one.The rangers at Pipestem are very concerned about environmental damage caused by off-trail activity. All Pipestem caches are located within 50 feet of the trail. Do not attempt to bushwhack to this or any Pipestem cache.
DO NOT BUSHWACK TO THIS CACHE FROM THE CANYON RIM COMPLEX!!! THE KIND FOLKS AT PIPESTEM ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT. IF PEOPLE CONTINUE TO BUSHWACK HERE ALL OF THE PIPESTEM CACHES WILL BE ARCHIVED! ALSO THE TERRAIN RATING IS 4.5 ON THE WAY DOWN. PLEASE RESPECT THE WISHES OF THE GUARDIANS OF THIS SPECIAL PLACE AND STAY ON THE TRAIL!!!!! The staff of Pipestem Resort request that you check in at the Nature Center to receive a copy of the coordinates for all seven of the Lost Caches of Pipestem Resort.

Hours for the Nature Center are:
Summer: Tuesday – Sunday 11:00 am to 4:30 pm
Winter Saturday 12:30 – 4:30
Sunday 10:30 – 2:30
Spring and Fall Wednesday – Sunday 12:30 – 4:30

If you call ahead (304-466-1800) we will attempt to make special arrangements to provide you with the coordinates. This trail is popular with experienced crosscountry skiers. It leads all the way into the Bluestone Gorge. The cache is located less than half way down. Should you choose to follow the trail into the gorge, be sure to check first to see if the Bluestone River is low enough to cross on foot. Remember the only way out of the gorge is on foot or on the tram and and the tram costs a couple of bucks and is not always running.

Now that I read the hint it makes sense........ I did not read the description before we left and ended up going down a steep hill here the power lines were but on the left side of them. Kept losing the reception and it was getting late. and we was leaving the next day, so had to give up on this one... But Nice hike. TFTH!!!

Tried to find this one on 7/3/09 but came back for another try on 7/4/09 after figuring out that we would be best to follow the trail down the ridge and then the other trail back to the cache. The hike going down was not bad but the hike back up was a little tuff but we had fun.

I took the trail down from the Canyon Rim Complex which gave me a good workout, especially going back up. Note the new cache container is no longer a coffee can. TNLNSL. Thanks for the cache.
