May 26, 12005 - My dear friend Trurokr replaced MP2 today close to the original - COORDS ABOVE ARE THE NEW ONES. MP2 got washed away during our spectacular winter! I guess caches and houses shouldn't be in flood plains.
A magical place, where I used to legally camp 45 years ago. Plan some time to enjoy views of islands, whales, dolphins, seabirds and military history and for some personal reflection and meditation. This small cache is adjacent to a path, at the base of a human-planted object. Please observe habitat restoration signs too.
There are several approaches and parking places. As other routes require crossing the busy rail line, the safest place to park is in the Emma Wood Campground area, where west Main St. ends at the northbound 101 entrance. From here, you can walk thru a tunnel under the tracks. You can also park in the bike path lot on the south side of Main St., just east of the mighty Ventura River, this route requires walking a short trestle section.
I parked at 34 16 629, 119 18 313 (near the fairgrounds in front of CalTrans yard) but I have heard that there are occasional car break-ins here and this requires walking the trestle to cross the river....thrill seekers only.
There are NO "No Trespassing" signs anywhere near here. So just use good judgment and be careful. You can avoid the trestle by walking south, and crossing at the mouth of the river.
Many folks live "al fresco" in this area, so I suggest you be careful; don't go here alone and definitely not after dark.
