Port Lincoln Prison is situated 650 kms west of Adelaide and can
accommodate 68 medium to low security prisoners.
The prison property totals just over 200ha, of which
approximately 150ha is dedicated to crop farming each year. Sheep
and cattle are also raised on the property and low security
prisoners are an integral part of the workforce involved in running
the agricultural areas of the prison.
Recently, the farm also began producing both hydroponic and
naturally grown vegetables. The majority of this produce is
supplied to local businesses within Port Lincoln and the
surrounding areas.
Port Lincoln also runs a wood work shop, where medium security
prisoners are currently constructing outdoor settings for the
National Parks and Wildlife Service, as well as creating nesting
boxes for a local chicken farm.
Restorative justice programs also operate from Port Lincoln. Low
security prisoners have been involved in many projects, including
restoration of damaged jetties, the Aleppo pine eradication
project, volunteering with the Country Fire Service during the
recent fires and various National Parks and Wildlife projects.
