Geocache Description:

This Geocache is located in the Superior National Forest with the permission of the Gunflint District Ranger. It is located on a well-known hiking trail approximately 47 miles up the Gunflint Trail from Grand Marais, MN. Parking is available at the Kekekabic Hiking Trailhead. There are no services available at this site so bring your own water and snacks for the hike.

To find the Geocache you will start your hike on the Kekekabic Hiking Trail. It is also known as the Centennial Trail and there is an informational pamphlet located at the Trailhead. Learn about the geology and historical importance of this interesting area that was first explored in search of iron ore. The trail follows an old railway bed through an area burned in the 2007 Ham Lake Fire.

There will be a cut off for the Old Fire Tower Trail and this is where you will want to head in search of the geocache. It's uphill to where the fire tower once stood as a lookout for forest fires. There are remnants of the tower and a foundation of a building at the top.

The geocache is placed inside a small pelican case. Some nice items inside for your effort.
