A park to enjoy the Sound and Mountains, and learn a little about weather!
This cache is in honor of Jeff Renner, weather man for KING 5 TV. The object of this cache is for the finder to record the temperature and weather conditions at the time of the visit. It is also to introduce more people to an interesting little park dedicated to weather! The park is graced by a triangular column that has depictions and writings about the area and is topped by a Brant geese weather vane. Make certain to try the sundial to record your time.
Please use the thermometer included in the cache to record the temp, and make any observations on the general weather conditions. (And don't forget to replace the thermometer!)
This cache is well hidden, so make certain to return it to it's original hiding state. Also, this is a public, open park (one of many of Seattle's tiny little parks) so keep an eye open for folks. Also, PLEASE NOTE: This is a leave nothing / take nothing cache...it's all about the weather!
[There is no need to disturb the plants to find this cache. Tread gently, and enjoy the view. Also, there is a small rubbermaid letterbox container near the cache...Please leave it where you find it.]
And now, a little history...
Weather Watch Park is technically a Seattle street end. In 1907, the site was a ferry dock for the mosquito fleet. When service was discontinued in 1920, the dock was dismantled and the site became a vacant lot. Some rubble and a large supply of coarse woody debris accumulated on the site. In 1990-91 volunteers began removing rubble that had accumulated on site over the course of 70 years when it was a vacant lot.The woody debris that had accumulated naturally in the pocket beach was left in place. Once the area was cleaned up, there was extensive revegetation and new paths made down to the beach.
