Skyyyyy Pirate Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

Purphekt: The tree, with a hollow on the side where the cache was located, has fallen during a recent storm. The cache is probably still there, but there is no way anyone will be able to find the cache with the massive tree on top of it. It was a fun cache to find, but the years have taken a toll. This cache can no longer be found. Perhaps, years from now, some curious raccoon may find it. Who knows.

Geocache Description:

Spoiler warning. Coords near cache are given on left side of page. Short hike along trail. Some elevation chages. Mountain bikes O.K. on trail. Hungry mosquito, tick, Posion Oak and Rattle Snake habitat.

O.K., I’m just kidding with the cache name. No association with Eric Burdon & the Animals. This is just another pirate booty to be found in the woods off Skyline Boulevard, hence the reference to Sky in the name of this cache. The listed coordinates for this cache are for the daylight hours parking area you will need if drive to this cache. Watch for traffic when crossing Skyline to the trailhead on the other side of the road. After crossing the road, proceed West on the trail until you come to a "T" trail junction. Take the trail North (Right) and proceed to the Memorial "bench". You will actually pass the cache location, but you won’t know it. After you decipher the clue at the Memorial bench, finding the cache should be fairly easy. Coordinates of Memorial bench: N37° 16.124' W122° 08.775' The memorial "bench" has a plaque. I stumbled onto this memorial around the summer of 1991 while I was checking out part of the Bay Area Ridge Trail. I thought this "bench" was a very nice memorial and a practical way of leaving your mark on the world. (Note: The location of the bench is different than it had been for the last 18 plus years. Shortly after I used the bench as a waypoint in my cache placement, the CDF went and moved the bench to this new location. This made for some confused geocachers to say the least.) After you arrive at the bench. Take a break and enjoy the vista. On the day I updated the cache coordinates, I could see the ocean beyond the mountains. You will find a plaque on the bench. Some folk's have had a hard time figuring out how to use my clue. When you find the bench, you will see a plaque mounted to the back support. On the plaque, you will find a name. A first name, a middle inital and a last name. Find the middle inital on the plaque. Use the value of the number (using the table below) coorsponding to the middle initial to work out the location of the cache. If you know your A B Cs and have 10 fingers you're half way to solving the clue. For the rest you may need a calulator. Some GPS devices even have a calculator. "IN LOVING MEMORY OF First name _. Last name". If A=1, B=2, C=3, etc. Proceed to these coordinates: N 37 (_ * 2.6883) W 122 (_* 1.4316) Cache is a regular size ammo box. Please re-conceal carefully when replacing the cache. Due to trail traffic, stealth may be necessary in acquiring the cache. Original contents: paperback book "Jurassic Park" Mini Mag flashlight tick removal kit toy frog toy dinosaur
