Situated above Field Hut in the Tararuas, Table Top is the first high point you will come to after leaving the hut. Naturally, being a sub-alpine environment, it is subject to all kinds of weather conditions, so cachers should always come well equipped for the hike.
A nearby cache with a similar name provided the incentive to place a small cache on the actual Table Top high point. Views on a good day are superb, so take some time to admire your surroundings.
The trip to Field Hut will take approx. 3 hours, and then Table Top is a further 30 mins or less on up the well marked track. In winter expect snow and a buried cache, but in summer conditions there will be no problems accessing the cache site.
Please ensure you are well equipped for this trip - good hiking footwear, warm clothing, raincoat, food and water. Nearby Field Hut provides a good shelter for lunch if required, or enjoy the views from the tops.
The cache is a small container with waterproof paper. We advise bringing your own pen.
