LavaLizard: This cache has come to my attention as being on private property without permission.

We reviewers typically operate under the assumption that adequate permission exists to place a cache unless circumstances suggest otherwise. As it appears that this cache was placed on private property without obtaining permission from the property owner or land manager, I am archiving this cache listing to remove it from search pages.

Geocache Description:

My wife and I have been mystified by this formation ever since we first noticed it on the way back from Tecate one day. $kimmer, Harmon of the SD Rowdies and others have been trying to help me track down some information on it, but so far all we have are conjectures - some of them as strange as the formation itself.

Stop at the turnout with a call box between Barrett Smith Road and 188 to Tecate. Look over the edge of the canyon and you'll see what has us mystified: two round, seemingly natural pools in the rock of the canyon floor. One of the pools has a small platform constructed beside it, with a ladder running down into the pool. The other, smaller pool has a hose running from it to the pool with the ladder to supply water to the larger pool. What we want to know is who went to the bother of doing all this - and why?

This was a location screaming for a cache, so I recently found a relatively easy way down into the canyon to put one there. If you go after this cache, for heaven's sake don't just go scrambling down over the canyon side at the turnout - much too dangerous! Walk up the road along the guard rail about a hundred feet or so to coordinates N 32 35.670, W 116 40.036 and you'll find a gentler slope down into the canyon. From there you're on your own. The cache is a Tupperware-type container. Cache completely replaced on 7/19/04 and moved about twelve feet north of its original location. This is an area that sees the occasional illegal immigrant traffic, so PLEASE hide the cache at least as good as it was when you found it. Cache on, and

Peace,

Radical Geezer
