Geocache Description:

This is a multi-cache with three virtual stages, and a main cache. The total distance you will have to travel from Stage One to Stage Four, including any doubling back that may be required is approximately 15.5 km.

Please note that although no real bushwhacking is required, if you decide to search for this cache during hunting season the wearing of Blaze Orange would be a good idea. The cache search takes you along a well maintained dirt/gravel road which does not require any specialised vehicles to be used.
The cache container is a small Lock and Lock container.

Stage One - The First Virtual Cache – This site is found at the co-ordinates listed above. This is a Historic Plaque in the picturesque village of Magnetewan. Take note of the date the “Mike”, the last steamship to ply these waters was removed from the river. Reverse this four digit number and divide by 1000 and add the result to both latitude minutes 35.735 and longitude minutes 34.178. The co-ordinates will be as N45 xx.xxx W79 xx.xxx. These co-ordinates will take you to a place where there is a commemorative plaque.

Stage Two – The Second Virtual Cache, the commemorative plaque. Take note of the date that the world’s longest recreational trail was initiated. Reverse this four digit number and divide by 1000 and add the result to both latitude minutes 42.094 and longitude minutes 35.073. The co-ordinates will be as N45 xx.xxx and W79 xx.xxx. These co-ordinates will take you to the third virtual cache, on the way you will travel along the shortest numbered highway in Ontario (possibly also the bumpiest numbered highway!) to yet another plaque.

Stage Three – The Third Virtual Cache, another commemorative plaque. Take note of the date that lime was worth 25 cents a bushel. Reverse this four digit number and divide by 1000 and add the result to both latitude minutes 45.313 and longitude minutes 38.816. The co-ordinates will be as N45 xx.xxx and W79 xx.xxx. These co-ordinates will take you to the Main Cache.

Stage Four – The Main Cache – The main cache is located in the area of a disused gravel pit, you can park off the road at the start of the trail leading to the cache site. The cache is a small Lock and Lock container and as the area is popular with hunters it is very well hidden. Please re-hide the cache well.
