Geocache Description:

Texas Pond picnic area

This is where a logging camp was built in 1901 the pond was used to hold the cedar logs until they were sent down to the Sauk. In 1965 a log jam closed the spill way and destroyed the dam and the road. The current damn was built by the forest service department in 1970. To get here from 530 go south from Rockport to Darrington the road is around a mile south of were 530 crosses over the Sauk River, the road makes a hard right turn and runs north parallel to 530 (there is a dead end sign but it dosn't). Just before the pavement ends you should find forest service road 28 a right fork takes you to forest service road 29. You can also get there on a road from Caskey Lake but I wouldn’t recommend it the road is more of a trail than a road and is very narrow in places. The GPS signal is not that great in the trees once you get out of your vehicle at Texas Pond so you might want to take a look at the hint. You may want to bring a trash bag this is an out of the way spot so as usual there is usually some trash lying around, we picked up two big bags full. May want to bring a lunch it's a nice place for a picnic. The Cache is a 24mm ammo box (black plastic) contains a 2004 silver U.S. Geocoin, and some of our regular trade items, a few flashlights, a couple of carabineer compass key chains, a few flag pins, two Lance Armstrong livestrong wrist bands, and of course a log book with a couple of pencils.
