Look In The Big Tree - The One On The Corner Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

fraygirls: What a bummer. We went to check on this one and were sad to see that it was gone because we had made the decision to archive this hide the next time it went MIA. This one seems to grow legs with depressing frequency, and we don't want to send people on useless searches. Sorry to those who sought this one recently, and many thanks to all who visited over the years!

Geocache Description:

Warning: This whole entire listing is one big SPOILER! This cache’s rating should really be 0/0!!! We have hidden a film canister in a big tree! Here is a picture of the tree:

The cache is within easy reach for anyone over 4 feet tall. This tree is a blast to climb, but doing so is not necessary to find the cache. The tree has lots of good hiding places, so we are going to be very specific about the cache’s location. It is hidden behind a piece of wood in the lowest crook of the tree. You can’t miss it. That’s the point! Here are some pictures to help you know where (and where not) to look:

Approach the side of the tree that faces the water. You want to have your back to the water as you walk up to the tree. Stop walking when you get to the tree. If you are right-handed, it will probably be most comfortable for you to reach for the protective shield of wood with your right hand. A left-handed cacher may prefer to use the left hand for this task. Remove the wood and look at the spot where the piece of wood just was. That’s where the cache is! Watch out for the intense cammo job on this container. Here is a picture of the container, just so you are familiar with the object of your search:

The cache is too small for a pen, so remember to bring your own ink! And please feel more than free to post spoiler information and images in your logs – we want to hear all about your grueling quest for the cache!

UPDATE: We have received many inquiries regarding this cache and, in the spirit of goodwill and cooperation, would like to share these helpful FAQs with everybody. Please feel free to send us any questions you may have about this cache – they just may end up on this list!

A: The kind of tree that has a cache in it.

Q: Should I look for the cache in the vicinity of the railroad ties that are near the big pretty tree?
A: No, you should look in the tree.

Q: I feel like you are trying to trick me. Where should I REALLY be searching for the cache?
A: You should be searching in the lowest crook of the tree.

Q: Do I need a kayak to find this cache?
A: Good Question! You won't need a kayak unless there is a big flood all around the tree where the cache is hidden.

A: No, there is no need to look at html. Look in the tree.

Q: Do the FAQ’s contain some kind of secret encoded message?
A: We’re working on that. In the meantime, you should go to the big pretty tree in the corner and look for the cache.

Q: Oh, I get it. I should look for the cache in those trees over there by the water?
A: No, you should look in the big tree on the corner.

Q: Does that rudimentary rope swing on that other tree in the distance provide any additional clues?
A: No, but have fun.

Q: Will this cache be easier to find if I am hanging upside from one of the limbs of the tree?
A: No, but have fun.

A: Look in the big pretty tree that stands all by itself near the corner.

Q: Did you realize that there is a piece of bark on the tree that looks EXACTLY like the cache container?
A: That is the cache.

Please be sure to park along the perimeter of this area on the Summer Rest Road side. It is legal to park there. Please do NOT park on the Eastwood Road side of the perimeter – that little parking area is private property, and there are very unfriendly signs posted to remind you of that fact.
