Geocache Description:

Deepest Dartmoor - Not suitable for young children. Will take between 3 - 5 hrs depending on fitness there and back and where you park.

This Cache is within the MERRIVALE Military firing range on Dartmoor. YOU WILL NEED TO ENSURE THEY ARE NOT FIRING BEFORE YOU MAKE THE HIKE. This can be checked on the website www.dartmoor-ranges.co.uk

Again - please ensure you also have appropriate clothing and safety equipment suitable for Dartmoor walking before going for this cache.

The Cache is a small pill container which contains a log book, pencil and a few small goodies. It is extremely well hidden in a small natural hole in a grassy and heathery bank near to the summit of Cut Hill and approx 90 paces from the subject, which is best viewed at N 50.37.651, W 003.58.962.

The container is pushed into the hole, down to the left slightly. I have then placed a small stone in front of it. The searcher will have to find the small hole then put their hand into it to find the stone then the box behind.

THIS BOX WILL BE CHALLENGING AND WILL NOT BE FOUND EASILY. Once found please view the flattened Bronze age stone row at the above co-ordinates. This is thought to be the highest stone row on Dartmoor and has only some of it has been uncovered by the old peat cutters.

From the summit views to the West are magnificent over the Queen of the moor - Fur Tor (or locally known as Vur Tor)a large rocky Tor. Beyond Fur tor on clear days Cornwall is clearly visible.

To the North is the Northern Morass of the moor stretching to High Willhays - the highest hill in Devon - infact it is over 2,000ft so officially a Mouintain!

To the South fine views of wilderness leading to the volcano shaped Longaford tor behind the ship shaped tor of Rough Tor.

And to the East - the East Dart river running towards Postbridge - probably the easiest route to get to Cut Hill.
