One of a series to fill in the gaps between Downtown caches. Parking is scarce or prohibited near most of these caches.  If you find a good parking spot, take it and do this series as an "urban hike."

Magnetic bison tube.

Growing up in Los Angeles, I remember the last Friday 10:00 a.m. civil defense sirens going off.  I always thought that if the Soviets were going to attack us, the last Friday at 10 o'clock would be the time to do it.  Everyone would think it was a test.

The sirens have long been silent.  The system no longer works.  It was disconnected in 1985.  However, most of the sirens still dot the landscape, monuments to the Cold War.

I miss the sirens and visiting this cache reminded me of the days that they used to go off. Easy P&G due to rain although just wanted to let GeoCraig know that one of the magnets were missing on the cache. Placed it back where I found it and it seems to be "sticking" well despite. TFTC. TNLNSL.

TFTC quick find, Found it early AM, free parking at the meters and a lot of bus Muggles. I remember these going off the last Friday of the month when I was growing up in Colorado. I guess they did these drills all over the country.

After a busy day of caching downtown it was nice to come to a cache not surrounded by muggles. Thanks!

Dad grew up in Santa Monica and he too, remembers those Friday morning sirens . The kids were more fascinated by the fake ivy camo on the chain link fence to the west... it only made us more interested in what was hiding behind it. TFTC and the Filling in the Gap series. (#1186)
