Lloyd Park Multi-cache Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Takin it Easy: This cache has had a long run (the second one I placed back in 2008). With the new park entrance fee, I thought it was the right time to archive it. Thanks for visiting!

Geocache Description:

This is a 4 part multi-cache all within the park. No bushwacking required and takes less than an hour to complete.

Benjamin Simmonds Lloyd was born in England in 1849. He and his wife, Jane Eld, journeyed to Calgary with the Shaw family (of Midnapore historical significance). The Lloyds settled in the Red Deer Lake vicinity in 1884 at the "Sleighford" ranch which was directly east of the park. Both died in Calgary in 1941. They had 8 children. Lloyd Park was named in honour of this family in 1981.

On route to Lloyd Park you will pass by 3 vintages of the Red Deer Lake school. The original one room school dated 1857 to 1955 can be found just within the park entrance. The newest Red Deer Lake school, which was opened in 2008, is just outside the park entrance. The prior Red Deer Lake school resides at the highway intersection and has been acquired by a private school. We believe that Lloyd Lake, within the park, was originally named Red Deer Lake and thus the name of the school. If anyone can contribute additionally to the history of Red Deer Lake, please add these comments to your logs.

Please adhere to all park rules and area speed limits as shown in the pictures below. You will pass through 2 school zones before entering the park. The park is gated and has hours of 7AM to dusk. The park is an on-leash area for dogs and droppings must be disposed of properly.
