Geocache Description:

This cache is located in Mccormick S.C. near the Savannah Lakes Village area. This cache is almost a "drive by" cache because it is very little walking to find the cache.

This cache is down a long gravel road (1764 whorship site road) which is off of (Huguenot PKWY.) I'ts easy to get to. Religion has a cherished history in McCormick County. Perhaps no other concept is as deeply rooted in the local culture as religion and the traditions associated with religious practices. Among the early settlers, the French Huguenots ventured to the county in the early days of 1764 to pursue what was for them an elusive treasure, the promise of religious freedom. Today a solitary granite cross in the woods marks their original worship site. While in the area you may want to check out the gullibeau house at Hickory Knob State Park. Guillebeau House (circa mid-1770's) Route 1 Box 199B, McCormick, SC 29835, Hickory Knob State Resort Park, 864-391-2450, The home of Andre Guillebeau, a Revolutionary War Veteran, this historic house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the only remaining documented structure of the French Huguenot Settlement in South Carolina.
