This is BB's 48th cache.
Pertendi Hut is situated in the middle of Ngarkat Conservation Park in SA's Mallee country. This is a great place to stop and stretch the legs if travelling around these parts. There is a camping ground and toilets here. Pertendi Hut is also a common launching pad for those heading into Ngarkat to do some 4WDing. Our Tops Mug and Crimson Hill of Deceit caches can be retrieved from here. (With a bit of forward planning.)
The hut was originally built in 1956 by the Jenzen family as a shelter for shepherds. It was restored in 1989 by the Friend of the Southern Mallee Parks. This group has also been responsible for the creation of a nature walk from here as well.
At 2km long, the Pertendi walk takes around 40 minutes to complete. While on the walk you may find some of the special wildflowers found in this aera including Green Comb Spider Orchid, Daddy Long Legs Spider Orchid and Dwarf Greenhood. Other plants found here include Flame Heath, Broombush, Common Correa, Yakka and Desert Banksia. There is also the usual selection of Mallee animals to be found as well.
The cache is easily found. No vegetation needs to be disturbed in your quest to find it. BYO pencil. Only very small swaps.
Have fun.
